Verb didaskō (to teach) in the New Testament

(Translation from NRSV with a few modifications for a more literal meaning)


Matthew

4: 23Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching (didaskō) in their synagogues and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and curing every disease and every sickness among the people.
5: 2Then he began to speak, and taught (didaskō) them, saying:
5: 19Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches (didaskō) others to do the same, will be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does them and teaches (didaskō) them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
7: 29for he taught (didaskō) them as one having authority, and not as their scribes.
9: 35Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching (didaskō) in their synagogues, and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and curing every disease and every sickness.
11: 1Now when Jesus had finished instructing his twelve disciples, he went on from there to teach (didaskō) and proclaim his message in their cities.
13: 54He came to his hometown and began to teach (didaskō) the people in their synagogue, so that they were astounded and said, "Where did this man get this wisdom and these deeds of power?
15: 9in vain do they worship me, teaching (didaskō) human precepts as doctrines.'"
21: 23When he entered the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to him as he was teaching (didaskō), and said, "By what authority are you doing these things, and who gave you this authority?"
22: 16So they sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians, saying, "Teacher, we know that you are sincere, and teach (didaskō) the way of God in accordance with truth, and show deference to no one; for you do not regard people with partiality.

Mark

1: 21They went to Capernaum; and when the sabbath came, he entered the synagogue and taught (didaskō).

2: 13Jesus went out again beside the sea; the whole crowd gathered around him, and he taught (didaskō) them.
4: 1Again he began to teach (didaskō) beside the sea. Such a very large crowd gathered around him that he got into a boat on the sea and sat there, while the whole crowd was beside the sea on the land.
4: 2He began to teach (didaskō) them many things in parables, and in his teaching he said to them:
6: 2On the sabbath he began to teach (didaskō) in the synagogue, and many who heard him were astounded. They said, "Where did this man get all this? What is this wisdom that has been given to him? What deeds of power are being done by his hands!
6: 6And he was amazed at their unbelief. Then he went about among the villages teaching (didaskō).
6: 30The apostles gathered around Jesus, and told him all that they had done and taught (didaskō).
6: 34As he went ashore, he saw a great crowd; and he had compassion for them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd; and he began to teach (didaskō) them many things.

8: 31Then he began to teach (didaskō) them that the Son of Man must undergo great suffering, and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.

11: 17He was teaching (didaskō) and saying, "Is it not written, 'My house shall be called a house of prayer for all the nations'? But you have made it a den of robbers."
12: 14And they came and said to him, "Teacher, we know that you are sincere, and show deference to no one; for you do not regard people with partiality, but teach (didaskō) the way of God in accordance with truth. Is it lawful to pay taxes to the emperor, or not?
12: 35While Jesus was teaching (didaskō) in the temple, he said, "How can the scribes say that the Messiah is the son of David?
14: 49Day after day I was with you in the temple teaching (didaskō), and you did not arrest me. But let the scriptures be fulfilled."

Luke

4: 15He began to teach (didaskō) in their synagogues and was praised by everyone.
4: 31He went down to Capernaum, a city in Galilee, and was teaching (didaskō) them on the sabbath.
5: 3He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little way from the shore. Then he sat down and taught (didaskō) the crowds from the boat.
5: 17One day, while he was teaching (didaskō), Pharisees and teachers of the law were sitting near by (they had come from every village of Galilee and Judea and from Jerusalem); and the power of the Lord was with him to heal.

John

Acts

1: 1In the first book, Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus did and taught (didaskō) from the beginning
4: 2much annoyed because they were teaching (didaskō) the people and proclaiming that in Jesus there is the resurrection of the dead.
4: 18So they called them and ordered them not to speak or teach (didaskō) at all in the name of Jesus.
5: 21When they heard this, they entered the temple at daybreak and went on with their teaching (didaskō). When the high priest and those with him arrived, they called together the council and the whole body of the elders of Israel, and sent to the prison to have them brought.
5: 25Then someone arrived and announced, "Look, the men whom you put in prison are standing in the temple and teaching (didaskō) the people!"
5: 28saying, "We gave you strict orders not to teach (didaskō) in this name, yet here you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and you are determined to bring this man's blood on us."
5: 42And every day in the temple and at home they did not cease to teach (didaskō) and proclaim Jesus as the Messiah.
11: 26and when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. So it was that for an entire year they met with the church and taught (didaskō) a great many people, and it was in Antioch that the disciples were first called "Christians."

1 John

2: 27As for you, the anointing that you received from him abides in you, and so you do not need anyone to teach (didaskō) you. But as his anointing teaches (didaskō) you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught (didaskō) you, abide in him.

2 Thessalonians

2: 15So then, brothers and sisters, stand firm and hold fast to the traditions that you were taught (didaskō) by us, either by word of mouth or by our letter.

1 Corinthians

4: 17For this reason I sent you Timothy, who is my beloved and faithful child in the Lord, to remind you of my ways in Christ Jesus, as I teach (didaskō) them everywhere in every church.

Colossians

Titus

1: 11they must be silenced, since they are upsetting whole families by teaching (didaskō) for sordid gain what it is not right.

Hebrews

5: 12For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach (didaskō) you again the basic elements of the oracles of God. You need milk, not solid food;
8: 11And they shall not teach (didaskō) one another or say to each other, 'Know the Lord,' for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest.

Revelation

2: 14But I have a few things against you: you have some there who hold to the teaching of Balaam, who taught (didaskō) Balak to put a stumbling block before the people of Israel, so that they would eat food sacrificed to idols and practice fornication.
