Adjective dikaios (righteous, right) in the Gospels-Acts

(Translation from NRSV with a few modifications for a more literal meaning)


Matthew

1: 19Her husband Joseph, being a righteous (dikaios) man and unwilling to expose her to public disgrace, planned to dismiss her quietly.
5: 45so that you may be children of your Father in heaven; for he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the righteous (dikaios) and on the unrighteous.
9: 13Go and learn what this means, 'I desire mercy, not sacrifice.' For I have come to call not the righteous (dikaios) but sinners."
10: 41Whoever welcomes a prophet in the name of a prophet will receive a prophet's reward; and whoever welcomes a righteous (dikaios) person in the name of a righteous (dikaios) person will receive the reward of the righteous (dikaios);

Mark

2: 17When Jesus heard this, he said to them, "Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick; I have come to call not the righteous (dikaios) but sinners."

Luke

1: 6Both of them were righteous (dikaios) before God, living blamelessly according to all the commandments and regulations of the Lord.

Acts

24: 15I have a hope in God - a hope that they themselves also accept - that there will be a resurrection of both the righteous (dikaios) and the unrighteous.

1 John

1: 9If we confess our sins, he who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
2: 1My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous (dikaios);
2: 29If you know that he is righteous (dikaios), you may be sure that everyone who does right (dikaios) has been born of him.
3: 7Little children, let no one deceive you. Everyone who does what is right (dikaios) is righteous (dikaios), just as he is righteous (dikaios).
