Verb nēsteuō (to fast) in the Gospels-Acts

Matthew

4: 2He fasted (nēsteuō) forty days and forty nights, and afterwards he was famished.
6: 16"And whenever you fast (nēsteuō), do not look dismal, like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces so as to show others that they are fasting (nēsteuō). Truly I tell you, they have received their reward.
6: 17But when you fast (nēsteuō), put oil on your head and wash your face,
6: 18so that your fasting (nēsteuō) may be seen not by others but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
9: 14Then the disciples of John came to him, saying, "Why do we and the Pharisees fast (nēsteuō) often, but your disciples do not fast (nēsteuō)?"
9: 15And Jesus said to them, "The wedding guests cannot mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them, can they? The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast (nēsteuō).

Mark

2: 18Now John's disciples and the Pharisees were fasting (nēsteuō); and people came and said to him, "Why do John's disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees fast (nēsteuō), but your disciples do not fast (nēsteuō)?"
2: 19Jesus said to them, "The wedding guests cannot fast (nēsteuō) while the bridegroom is with them, can they? As long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast (nēsteuō).
2: 20The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast (nēsteuō) on that day.

Luke

5: 33Then they said to him, "John's disciples, like the disciples of the Pharisees, frequently fast (nēsteuō) and pray, but your disciples eat and drink."
5: 34Jesus said to them, "You cannot make wedding guests fast (nēsteuō) while the bridegroom is with them, can you?
5: 35The days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast (nēsteuō) in those days."
18: 12I fast (nēsteuō) twice a week; I give a tenth of all my income.'

Acts

13: 2While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting (nēsteuō), the Holy Spirit said, "Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them."
