Verb tiktō (to give birth, to bear) in the Gospels-Acts

(Translation from NRSV for the New Testament with a few modifications for a more literal meaning)


Matthew

1: 21She will bear (tiktō) a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins."
1: 23"Look, the virgin shall conceive and bear (tiktō) a son, and they shall name him Emmanuel," which means, "God is with us."
1: 25but had no marital relations with her until she had borne (tiktō) a son; and he named him Jesus.
2: 2asking, "Where is the child who has been born (tiktō) king of the Jews? For we observed his star at its rising, and have come to pay him homage."

Luke

1: 31And now, you will conceive in your womb and bear (tiktō) a son, and you will name him Jesus.
1: 57Now the time came for Elizabeth to give birth (tiktō), and she bore a son.
2: 6While they were there, the time came for her give birth (tiktō).
2: 7And she gave birth (tiktō) to her firstborn son and wrapped him in bands of cloth, and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.

John

16: 21When a woman is in labor, she has pain, because her hour has come. But when her child is born (tiktō), she no longer remembers the anguish because of the joy of having brought a human being into the world.
